Week 28!

Half Term this week and we made Butternut Squash Macaroni and cheese, and for pudding apple and pear scrumble. first we made the macaroni, it was really simple just roast the butternut squash then cook the macaroni while that's happening you make a really really cheesy sauce with cheddar and Parmesan once everything is cooked it all goes in a big oven proof dish to cook but don't forget to sprinkle extra cheese over the top! Then we made the scrumble, yes scrumble we found the recipe in one of the good food magazines, it is a crumble bottom with a scone top! which doesn't sound very nice but when you make it right takes delicious, however the first time it was made it was disgusting. we had managed to poach the apples and add the pears and it was all looking very tasty; then we got to the topping and it all went very wrong as we were reading the recipe we forgot to put a pound of flour In which for you people who don't know how much that is that is ALOT. so we added the rather runny topping and cooked we had wondered why it looked so runny when we got it out of the  oven to find out it was swimming in butter because there wasn't enough flour. Our friend Faye came to try the food and told us we had forgotten the flour that resulted in a lot of laughing!
So this week was a fifty fifty success, alot of fun was ad by us girlies, Bonne appetite Zilah and Steph xxx
P.S steph made the same recipe again the next day (with the right amount of flour) and it tasted delicious and is now a family favourite.

Week 27!

This week we made Okonomiyaki Japanese vegetable pancakes with ice buns. We first made the iced buns because the had to rise twice. They went very well although the were quite messy to ice, we ran out of cream for the last 2 or 3 and took a while but tasted amazing when they were done! You can find the recipe at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/iced_fingers_34133
Next we made the pancakes, it was very easy but didn't taste very nice, which was a shame. They were very bland and didn't really taste of anything but cabbage! Even with that though because the iced buns where so nice we were happy.

Week 26 ! Half way !

This week was the mid way point of our cooking year! So to celebrate we had a real life clueo party and Chinese (which we made).
For the Chinese we made egg fried rice, lemon chicken, vegetable chow main and fortune cookies.
We started of with making the fortune cookies so they had time to cool inside each fortune cookie was either victim or Murderer to tie in with our themed evening! The fortune cookies were easy to cook but harder to fold, as you ave to fold them up really quickly while there still really hot other wise they crack, and don't work, so you end up with sore fingers after wards!
after we had done enough fortune cookies Steph started on the egg fried rice and lemon chicken while Zilah made the vegetable chow mane with noodles. all of this went well and was quite easy however the  ginger didn't want  to grate very much and ended up in a clump which we removed , or tried any way.
Once all of our friends arrived in costume, we stir fried to finish and quickly got dressed, and ate dinner with our guests after tea we carried on with the game after eating the fortune cookies! The evening was much enjoyed by everyone and so was the food.
