Week 13

Unlucky week 13!!!!!
Today we attempted falafels with a minty yogurt dip, and then baked Alaska.
There was only one word for the falafels ... Bland. they didn't have any flavour apart from lemon and turned into mush as soon as they were in your mouth, however the yogurt mint dip was actually then only thing that worked !!!and all the dip was mixing chopped mint and natural yogurt!!!
well the baked Alaska went awful no jokes!
  • first the biscuit base broke into 3
  • then the meringue wasn't stiff enough
  • next we left the ice cream to long and it melted
  • then we tried to scoop the meringue onto the ice cream and it all slid off
  •   finally we accidentally put the baked Alaska into the oven instead of the freezer !!!!!!!!!!!
While writing this we have been checking the ice cream/meringue blob and it is gradually getting worse in the freezer, if that is even possible.

Week 12!

This week we didn't make a 2 course meal like usual because it was our friend Fayes birthday and she was having a night at the Oscars party and we made canapes for it. So we made 3 different types of canapes, bite size quiches, fruit lollipops and filo cheesy parcels. We started with the quiches which went well, using mini mince pie cases and normal quiche mix then we made the fruit lollipops which took longer because we had to melt 3 types of chocolate (white, milk and dark) an prepare 4 types of fruit (oranges, bananas, grapes and strawberries) then dip the strawberries in the white chocolate, the oranges and the bananas in the dark chocolate and the grapes in the milk chocolate, after one side was covered in chocolate we then dipped them in the 2 types of popping candy tuti fruity and strawberry flavour.
after we had made the lolly pops we made the filo pastry cheese parcels which was a success but unfortunately one of the filo pastry sheets ripped but its OK we fixed it, we tried a bit of one and it tasted really nice.
We have got to hurry now as we are going to be late for the party!!!

Week 11

This week we made potato gnocchi with a tomato sauce and cinnamon swirls. We started with the tomato sauce which is easy so was quick to make. Then we made the potato gnocchi which went well apart from that we used the wrong type of flour. We put them them to the side and started on the cinnamon swirls which was harder, it started with dough which went well, then the cinnamon filling which also went well but then we had to roll it out to 50cm by 35cm and then covered in the filling. It was very hard to get it big enough! Once we had managed to get it rolled out, filled and rolled up into a worm we sliced it into sections and left it to rise for an hour, till it had doubled in size. We then cooked the gnocchi and some pasta too because there wasn't much gnocchi. It tasted wonderful. We watched a film while we waited for the swirls to rise and cook and they took a while but when they were done they tasted great.
