week 10!

This week we reached double digits! yay! We made a cheese souffle and a jelly bean Swiss roll. We started with the Swiss roll because souffles sink if you leave them, it was all quite easy just a slightly odd sponge with jam on it really but we put jelly beans in the middle and on top. And learnt a knew joke how do you make a Swiss roll? you push them down a mountain lol lol!
The cheese souffle was easier than we expected and didn't sink much until we cut into it.
It all tasted great and we were all surprised the souffle worked.

Week 9!

This week we didn't do two courses, instead we made a birthday cake and marshmallows for our friend Izzis party.
The cake was four layers tall! 1st layer vanilla sponge 2nd layer lemon sponge 3rd layer vanilla sponge 4th layer lemon sponge, and in between each layer was a layer of lemon butter cream icing. To make it was easy, it was the putting together that was hard! Unfortunately it was very uneven and looked like the leaning tower of cake!
Then we made marshmallows which were harder as they were very sticky, they were extremely sweet and we didn't like them that much, however after a night in the fridge they tasted better.

We think this week was a success and Izzi liked the cake!!

Week 8!

This week we couldn't cook at the weekend because Zilah was at a sea scout camp but we cooked after school on monday to make up for it. We made spicy carrot and cumin soup with croutons and a tarte fine aux pommes (puff pastry apple thingy).
the soup was fairly easy an tasted amazing not to spicy and the yoghurt swirl on top brought all the flavours together nicely. the croutons had a nice crunch and were well seasoned and had an array of herbs. The apple tarte worked great and the only difficulty we had was chopping the apples thin enough and we managed to fix it by using a peeler to slice :)
All tasted fabby dabbby!

week 7

This week we made a homely warming meal. A sausage and pear cider casserole, and then little pots of melted chocolate (chocolate lava cakes, curtesy of Rosie Duncombe for giving us the idea).
All tasted amazing and very warm compared to the drizzly rain outside. It was all fairly easy and worthwhile.

From Zilah and Steph bonne appetite! xxx
