Week 33!

This week we made A Chunky Root vegetable Soup with mini ginger bread houses, compleat with gingerbread men and gingerbread pigs.
First we made the Soup, Which involved alot of chopping up veggys and crying over shalotts!! While the soup was cooking we made the ginger bread for our gingerbread village!! The recipe was for 4 houses and we were going to half it but then decided not to last minute, which ment all the quantitys were massive!!
We had alot of fun cutting out the shapes, put them in the oven and ate our yummy yummy soup!!
The we decorated our 3 houses and put them together! With lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of icing (using stephs new icing gun). Halfway though decorating the houses we suddenly realised that our villagers where still in the oven, about half and hour after the timer had gone off! We realised how smokey the room had got and raced to the oven to rescue them. Unfortunanty many lives where lost today as they where ALL beyond repair and fully cremated by the time we got to them. But the houses still looked wonderful and tasted great too!

Week 32!

This Week we made a Spicy Autumn Stew with dumplings and a ginger cake with orange icing.
We Started with the cake, which was very easy to make but even though it said only to cook it for 50 minutes we ended up cooking it for at least an hour and a half, in the end though it was a very yummy cake.
We then made the stew and dumplings, steph made the dumplings while Zilah prepared the vegetables for the stew, Everything was very easy, except when we came to eat it it was VERY VERY SPICY!!!! It tasted more like a curry than a stew.

week 31

This week we made heart shaped egg in toast with a banana and chcolate bread and butter pudding. We started with the bread and butter pudding which nearly used a whole loaf of bread. It was very simple and very yummy. It used alot of cream, milk and chcolate spread!Which are very yummy ingredients!
Then we made a holandaise sauce which failed like a big whale we tried it twice and both times it split which sucks becuase it meant no sauce with the toast. However the heart shaped eggs in toast were very cute and very scrummy, definatly going to make them again!

Week 30!

This week we had a spainish theme! Basically a selection of tapas and some funny spainish music in the background! We made Garlicky prawns with sherry, Spainish rice (paella), Patatas bravas (roasted potato cubes with tomato mush), A goats cheese salad with a very yummy chocolate balsamic sauce and ALOT of tomato bread! We didn't really make any of it in a particular order, just all at the same time and got a bit confused but in the end it all tasted great and we invited stephs parents over to eat with us. They were all very impressed and the meal was enjoyed by all. We finished the meal with a brought baked blueberry cheesecake and now the adults are talking while we write the blog.

Week 29!

This week is stephs birthday! We cooked on her birthday for her fireworks, soup and real life cluedo party! We made 2 loafs of bread and iced a chocolate birthday cake that steph had made the day before so it would be cool enough.
We started with the bread so it could rise and all went well. We are quite the experts at bread making now! While they rose we iced the 3 layer cake and put some happy birthday candles on it. It looked great so we put the bread dough in their tins and left it to rise again while we wrote the cluedo profiles.
After a while we put the risen bread in the oven and it came out looking amazing!
All the guests arrived and we ate tomato soup with our bread and went outside to watch the fireworks. Halfway though the game we paused to eat cake, either ours or our friend Faye's who had brought a strawberry and cream cake with her.

Week 28!

Half Term this week and we made Butternut Squash Macaroni and cheese, and for pudding apple and pear scrumble. first we made the macaroni, it was really simple just roast the butternut squash then cook the macaroni while that's happening you make a really really cheesy sauce with cheddar and Parmesan once everything is cooked it all goes in a big oven proof dish to cook but don't forget to sprinkle extra cheese over the top! Then we made the scrumble, yes scrumble we found the recipe in one of the good food magazines, it is a crumble bottom with a scone top! which doesn't sound very nice but when you make it right takes delicious, however the first time it was made it was disgusting. we had managed to poach the apples and add the pears and it was all looking very tasty; then we got to the topping and it all went very wrong as we were reading the recipe we forgot to put a pound of flour In which for you people who don't know how much that is that is ALOT. so we added the rather runny topping and cooked we had wondered why it looked so runny when we got it out of the  oven to find out it was swimming in butter because there wasn't enough flour. Our friend Faye came to try the food and told us we had forgotten the flour that resulted in a lot of laughing!
So this week was a fifty fifty success, alot of fun was ad by us girlies, Bonne appetite Zilah and Steph xxx
P.S steph made the same recipe again the next day (with the right amount of flour) and it tasted delicious and is now a family favourite.

Week 27!

This week we made Okonomiyaki Japanese vegetable pancakes with ice buns. We first made the iced buns because the had to rise twice. They went very well although the were quite messy to ice, we ran out of cream for the last 2 or 3 and took a while but tasted amazing when they were done! You can find the recipe at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/iced_fingers_34133
Next we made the pancakes, it was very easy but didn't taste very nice, which was a shame. They were very bland and didn't really taste of anything but cabbage! Even with that though because the iced buns where so nice we were happy.
